Chronology

Due: 2022-11-16

Objective

Build a one-page website which chronicles your life. The site should be divided up and structured according to significant period and events of your life.

Periods & Events

  • Your life should be divided into at least 3 major periods.
  • You should include at least 3 foundational or transformative events from each period.

Periods

For example, you may divide your life up into these major categories:
Childhood | Teenage Years | Young & Dumb (Young adult) | All Grown Up

Every period should contain a representative image. (Original photo or illustration) This should be a visually rich image [show examples of appropriate levels of detail]. Each period should also contain 2+ paragraphs that describe that period in your life, and the three major transformative events with brief explanations of them.

Events

Every event should have an image or icon that corresponds to it as well. This needn’t be as detailed as the Period images. Each event should contain at least a sentence describing what happened.

Extra layer of structure: Your site should contain at least one additional layer/type of structuring that is of your choice. This may be that you have a timeline running throughout your site which runs in correspondence with the rest of your structure. There may be a form of coloration (with a key/legend or some way of explaining it) that corresponds to the mood of that period of your life. (Was it a particularly dark period?)

So, you must plan, sketch, figure out framework, build a good Illustrator comp, make good imagery, write good content.

Instructions

Step 1

Create at least 3 sketches which show different approaches to how the site will look. Some of the changes from sketch to sketch will be to the layout, but focus more on the more creative visuals, and the typographic hierarchy in your sketches. You don’t have to show these to more, but you should take time to figure out the logistics of your page/site.

Step 2

Build it in Illustrator. You should be showing this to me on October 28th for feedback. Continue to work on the site’s design, implementing feedback you receive as well as asking for pointers for extra functionality you’d like that we haven’t covered in case you should plan for it.
Due 2020-04-14: Turn in your Illustrator files and pdfs as [lastname-f-project1].

Step 3

Build the site as a fully functional web page(s) and ensure that your html layout matches your Illustrator. Drop your project in the Web 1 dropbox by 6:00pm on the due date.
