    We will explore and develop ideas through a variety of processes and media, and uphold professional practices throughout, such as promptness and appropriate presentation of work. The primary goal of this course of for students to develop a process for sorting ideas for solving problems (through visual or verbal sketching), refine and adapt those ideas (through personal exploration and instructor guidance), and bring them into fruition through a variety of digital and tactile media.

    We'll continue to refine skills in identity development and promotional materials, explore personal design styles, and explore more complex design problems such as publication design and information design.

    Preparation of a portfolio comprised of completed graphic design class projects. Evaluation and demonstration of portfolio presentation methods based on the student’s specific area of study.

    Typography

    Typography, as I define it, refers to the usage, handling and manipulation of text in a deliberate manner. This involves choosing fonts, arranging text, and establishing hierarchy in such as way as to communicate a message. We will investigate typography as a dynamic and adaptable communication tool. We'll review the basics of typographic anatomy, and move into the exploration of creative type, informational type, and conceptual type.

    Identify how the Internet functions with specific attention to the World Wide Web and file transfer; apply design techniques in the creation and optimization of graphics and other embedded elements; develop proviciency writing (x)HTML and CSS code necessary to create a web page; demonstrate the use of World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) formatting and layout standards; design, create, test, and maintain web pages.

    We will begin to build more complex layouts, and use our web development skills to build fully functional websites. We'll learn how to design and develop more complicated front end web elements, with an emphasis on creating user-friendly experiences.
