Non-Collateral Items

Due: 2019-11-05

Objective

For this portion of the project, you will begin to explore what your company looks like beyond print collateral, but rather within the materials that are used and distributed by the company. You’ll give an idea of what the company looks like on a bigger scale and in more practical settings.

To do this, you will create 4 branded, but non-collateral items of the following types:

  • 2 products, container or packaging items
  • 1 representation of large-scale signage for the company
  • 1 item of SWAG

What you produce for these items will vary, but you must get approval for what you are doing.

Products

These will not necessarily be products, be they will be 3-dimensional items associated with your company. This can include items like the packaging for your company’s products, cups, pill bottles, bags or other things that would be found within your company.

Signage

This will be an illustrated mockup of large scale signage (indoor or outdoor, whatever is most appropriate and gives the best view of your brand extension). The detail level and the context you give your signage should be approximately equal to something like this. The challenges will vary from location to location: you may have a lot of environmental junk that you need to leave out, or there may be a sparsity of context that you’ll have to resolve in your comp. These comps are to be illustrated so you are sure to focus in on only what you require to be shown.

SWAG

This is an item that would either be sent out or, more often, taken away from a business which you are likely to hold onto. These items are usually less disposable than packaging and collateral items, and more likely to be kept around the office or home of the customer. This is good in that your brand remains visible to the consumer, even if that’s not their intention. Examples include things like matchboxes, drinking glasses, and t-shirts but let your imagination and company bring you to better solutions. Here is an example of a SWAG piece that I’ve done.

You must present sketches for what you are doing for each of these items, and come with more than the required ideas for each element so we can pick your best ones to move forward with.

Process

You must show sketches for these items to receive feedback and make revisions.

Submission

You can submit all of these in digital format (professional-quality mockups) or physical mockups except for the SWAG piece. You must create a mock up of this item, using the best resources at your disposal. You will drop your working files and pdfs in the dropbox as well.
